In this article, we show you how to clean a carpet using a dry cleaning powder. This compound is specifically designed for dry cleaning carpets and rugs. Carpet dry cleaning is a quick and simple process, usually takes 5 minutes, with positive results.

What is Dry Carpet Cleaning?

This is a method that uses dry chemical powders (with low moisture) to extract dirt and grime from the carpet. These dry cleaning chemicals absorb the dirt and oils in the carpet before being vacuumed up. It works well for cleaning viscose rugs or carpets that are dry-cleanable only.

Natural fibre carpets can also be cleaned using this method without harming the fibres. Like sisal or jute rugs, just to name a few.

Use an upright Vacuum cleaner and a large brush (like a deck brush) if you are doing a whole room.
Step One: Vacuum The Carpet
Start by thoroughly vacuuming the carpet to collect as much dust as possible.

Step Two: Apply the Dry Cleaning Compound
There are several brands of carpet dry cleaners available. We used a professional grade dry cleaning compound made of corn husks and infused with orange essential oil.

After vacuuming, sprinkle the compound on the carpet. Did you know that dry cleaning products can also protect the fibres of your carpet against future stains.

Step Three: Scrub the Compound
Brush and tamp* the cleaner into the carpet pile, and it will quickly absorb dirt and refresh the carpet.

*Tamping is the process of pressing and tapping the compound into the carpet. Used when you do not want to overwork the carpet and cause any damage to the fibres.

Step Four: Vacuum The Carpet
The final step is to vacuum, lifting the powder from the carpet. This removes all the dirt and oils that are embedded in the fibres.

Step Five: Repeat
Repeat the process if the stain is not completely removed.
