Soap scum is the chalky white film that forms in showers, bathtubs, and sinks as we use them. This film is made up of natural minerals found in the water. Which in turn, when mixed with soap form a sticky layer that adheres to bathroom surfaces. Over time, the longer it sits, the more difficult it is to remove.
Mixing and usage instructions to make 500ml of homemade shower screen/glass cleaner.
Whatever size mixture you make, a ratio of 20% vinegar and 5-10% IPA is used. It makes little difference whether the IPA is 70% or 90%; the objective is to have some solvent in the solution. This helps in the breakdown of soap scum.
Step Two:
Squirt a drop of dishwashing soap (about 2ml) to the mix, this helps bind everything together.
Step Three:
Fill to the 500ml mark with water.
Step Four:
Spray the formula liberally over the glass screen. We tested two methods in wiping down the cleaner using a scrubbing brush and a magic eraser. Scrubbing with the nail brush cut through the grime straight away. Both work, but the magic eraser is far more effective. As a result, we recommend that you use the magic eraser.
Step Five:
Rinse the solution using your shower attachment.
