The best news is that these supplies are incredibly affordable if you buy them in quantity! Additionally, you can create a variety of homemade cleaning products to use in and around your home that are non-toxic.

Grout Cleaning Hack # 1: The Grout Bush

It is essential to purchase a professional long-handle grout brush. It is only likely to be available from a commercial cleaning provider.

The brush should have a swivel action for hard-to-reach areas. With stiff ‘V”-shaped bristles that make it easy to clean dirty grout lines. The long pole handle is also key to allowing you to scrub without being on your hands and knees.

Note:
If you don't have a grout brush, use a toothbrush to clean the grout. Naturally, we prefer to scrub the grout using the grout brush.

Grout Cleaning Hack # 2: The Cleaning Solution

We use a homemade cleaning solution made of washing soda to clean the grout. Also referred to as sodium carbonate or soda crystals.

Recipe for Homemade Grout Cleaner

  1. In a small bowl of hot water, add some rubbing alcohol and washing soda.
  2. Stir to dissolve the crystals.

Baking soda has a pH of 8.59, while washing soda has a pH of 11.5, which is why you should use sodium carbonate instead. It is a better choice for a stronger cleaning product due to the higher alkalinity.

Why not learn how to make your own washing soda at home? It is quick and easy. A fun project to do at home with the kids. With the extra benefit of employing homemade cleaning products, like the one we're using in this instance.

Debunked...!!
Use baking soda and vinegar for cleaning grout. Both pantry staples work well for homemade cleaning products. The problem is that combining them does not work. When you mix vinegar with baking soda, carbon dioxide is released, resulting in the formation of carbonic acid. This then dissolves into plain water, effectively cancelling each other out. With no cleaning capabilities at all.

Grout Cleaning Hack # 3: Hands Down the Best Applicator

In an old toilet duck bottle, use your own homemade cleaner to clean the grout line without making a mess. Fill the empty bottle with the dissolved solution. The nozzle allows you to easily inject grout cleaner directly into the grout line.

Followed by giving the floor a flat mop. Leaving the grout underneath lovely and clean.
