Introduction

A simple guide to removing vomit and vomit smells from a synthetic rug.

Cleaning up vomit is not a pleasant experience, especially if you have a sensitive stomach. Unfortunately, most people experience this at some point in their lives. Dealing with it as soon as possible makes the job much easier.

Follow our step-by-step guide below to learn how to remove nasty vomit odours from rugs (the same method can be applied to carpets and other soft furnishings). This will work on both dog and cat vomit, as well as human vomit.

Step-By-Step Instruction

Note...
Normally, we recommend vacuuming the rug before using the cleaning solution. However, we do not want to the vomit to clog up the vacuums filters (if using HEPA). In the final section, we'll use the wet vacuum to get it out.
Step One:
In a bucket of hot water, combine the peroxide (oxy powder) and a scoop of biological washing powder.

Step Two:
Stir the oxy powder in the bucket while wearing rubber gloves to activate it and dissolve it in the water.

Step Three:
Apply a generous amount of the soapy water solution to the sponge and sponge it into the vomit stains. The peroxide should be changing the colour of the vomit and releasing the stains. At this point, the odour should be dissipating as well. The water left behind acts as a medium for the wet vacuum to remove the vomit later on.

Step Four:
Repeat step 3 until the vomit stains and odours are neutralised.

Step Five:
Use a wet vacuum to remove the water and vomit.

Step Six:
Leave the carpet to air dry.

Final Thoughts

The method is excellent to remove vomit stains from a rug, as well as neutralises the bad odours. Have a look at our cleaning guide "How to Clean a Synthetic Rug At Home" to learn more about cleaning the entire rug.
